You’re in pre-diabetic range, right on the cusp. a1cs can be misleading, though. an a1c of 5.9% corresponds to an average blood glucose reading of 133 mg/dl. if half the time you’re around 80 and half the time you’re around 186, then you would get an a1c of 5.9% even though those high values would point more toward diabetes than pre-diabetes.. 5.9c is clearly in the pre-diabetic range. (5.7-6.0 is the range). also, post-prandial metrics go much sooner than a1c or fasting numbers. for example, my a1c is only 5.5, but i can see a 1-hour number of 170 after a high carb meal. > 140 is where nerve damage can start taking place..
